There was more than one Super Bowl in Las Vegas this year. The Spec Mix Bricklayer 500, known as the “Super Bowl of Masonry,” was also held and was won by Wisconsin mason Michael Schlund for the second year in a row! In this video from Building Wisconsin TV, we check out the “Road to Las Vegas” as we visit the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 Regional Competition in Fond du Lac. We start with Jim Vick, State Director of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers of Wisconsin (BACWI) and Mike Rolf from Spec Mix provides an overview the competition. Then Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 World Champion Michael Schlund tells what it’s like to compete, win a regional and move on to win the “Super Bowl of Masonry” in Las Vegas not once, but twice! We finish at a cement masonry project at DC Everest High School near Wausau with Steve Lewis from Lewis Construction to see how a concrete pour is done with his crew of cement masons from BACWI. Congratulations Michael!
