Snowplows were honking while driving around the Capitol Square in Madison on Tuesday in support of a bill to reduce winter salt use across the state. The bill urges legislation toward training for contractors and other professionals who operate snowplows to practice safe methods when using salt and ultimately, reduce the amount of salt that’s used. In this video from Building Wisconsin TV, we show how being salt wise with water softeners can also make a big impact in reducing salt pollution. Host Stuart Keith meets with Steve Breitlow and Cory Thompson from Plumbers Local 75, Kathy Lake from the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District, Luke Bauer from Monona Plumbing & Fire Protection and Allison Madison from WI Salt Wise. Learn how your water softener works, how it’s repaired and when it should be replaced.
