In an already tight labor market, skilled tradespeople are in short supply. Last May, the state Department of Workforce Development hired five “apprenticeship navigators” in different regions of the state to help potential workers find apprenticeship opportunities. Apprenticeship is hands-on, post-secondary education like a college or university but apprentices receive most of their training on-the-job, while working for an employer providing a good wage and benefits. In today’s video from Building Wisconsin TV, Plumbers Local 75 member Christina B. talks about switching from college to a plumbing apprenticeship.
