The current shortage of skilled workers has caused the Building Trades to increase recruitment efforts to bring in and train good people, including women. And more women are attracted to the Trades due to plentiful jobs with excellent pay and benefits. Whether it’s classes like Welding For Women or female carpenters from Madison College, more programs are breaking barriers and encouraging young women to enter the Trades. This video from Building Wisconsin TV features Welding and Pipe Fabrication training with UA 400. Host Stuart Keith starts at the UA 400 Training Center where Trevor Martin talks about apprenticeship programs. Then it’s on-the-job training at Bassett Mechanical with Kim Bassett and Cody Blauert. Finally, apprentice Maddy DeJardin talks about working for Bassett as a steamfitter while training at UA 400 and her experience with their Youth Apprenticeship Program.
